Veteran Nigerian actor Davis Offor, best known for his role as “Clarus” in the iconic television sitcom The New Masquerade, has died at the age of 85.

His passing was confirmed on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, by longtime colleague Tony Akposheri, who portrayed “Zaki” in the popular series. In a heartfelt tribute shared on Facebook, Akposheri described Offor as more than a co-star, recalling their enduring friendship and noting that they had celebrated the New Year together just months ago.

“Davis Offor, fondly known as Clarus, is gone,” he wrote. “You were not just a familiar face on screen but a friend and brother. Your warmth, humour, and presence could light up any room. Rest well, you will never be forgotten.”

The New Masquerade, which aired on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) from the 1980s to the mid-1990s, remains one of Nigeria’s most beloved sitcoms. Offor’s portrayal of Clarus, alongside characters like “Gringory” (played by the late James Iroha) and the memorable Chief Zebrudaya, endeared him to audiences across generations.

Offor’s death marks the loss of another pioneer in Nigeria’s television and comedy industry, leaving behind a lasting legacy of laughter and entertainment.

Details of his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family in the coming days.
