The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has taken a swipe at the support base of Peter Obi, suggesting that the former presidential candidate may face challenges from within his own ranks as the 2027 elections draw closer.

Dabiri-Erewa expressed concern over the conduct of some of Obi’s loyalists, popularly known as “Obidients,” accusing them of displaying aggressive and hostile behavior, especially in political discussions online and offline. According to her, such actions could negatively affect Obi’s public image and weaken his chances in future political contests.

She warned that a support group perceived as intolerant or confrontational might alienate potential allies and undecided voters, ultimately becoming a liability rather than an asset to the politician they seek to promote.

The remarks have sparked reactions across the political space, with supporters of Obi defending their stance as passionate advocacy, while critics argue that political engagement should remain respectful and issue-based.

As political activities gradually build toward the 2027 general elections, analysts say the role of supporters and public perception may significantly influence the fortunes of candidates and parties.
