Survivors of the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction have marked the 12th anniversary of the incident with a message of resilience and a renewed call for increased investment in girl-child education.

The survivors, who are currently studying at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State, commemorated the tragic event of April 14, 2014, while reflecting on their journey from trauma to strength.

In a statement, they urged governments and global stakeholders to prioritize the education and empowerment of girls, stressing that education remains a powerful tool for overcoming adversity and building confidence.

“We are more than our fears,” the group declared, highlighting their transformation into symbols of hope despite the painful experiences they endured.

They noted that education has played a crucial role in helping them rebuild their lives, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and the confidence to speak out and inspire others facing similar challenges.

The survivors also announced a major milestone, revealing that 12 of their colleagues are set to graduate from AUN later this month.

Expressing gratitude, they acknowledged the support of the Federal Government, AUN, and individuals who have contributed to their recovery and academic progress over the years.

While celebrating their achievements, the group remembered fellow abductees who are still in captivity and called for intensified efforts to secure their freedom.

They emphasized that investing in girls’ education is key to creating a more inclusive and stable society, adding that it is never too late for those still held captive to regain their freedom and rebuild their lives.
