Resident doctors in Nigeria have started receiving long-overdue salary arrears following the commencement of payments linked to previous adjustments in their remuneration structure.
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors confirmed that disbursement is already underway, with several members reporting that they have been credited for months of accumulated unpaid allowances. The payments form part of efforts to settle outstanding obligations that had lingered for some time.
The association explained that the settlement will be done in stages, with all eligible doctors expected to be captured as the process continues across different medical institutions.
While the development has been welcomed by many healthcare workers, the group noted that some delays may still occur in certain cases due to administrative clearance processes being finalized.
The ongoing payment exercise has brought relief to resident doctors who have repeatedly raised concerns over welfare and unpaid entitlements, with hopes that remaining arrears will be fully cleared soon.
