President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Kebbi State following a deadly bandit attack and the passing of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman-Zuru.

Representing the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to sympathize with Governor Nasir Idris and residents of the state. The visit comes after a violent attack in Shanga Local Government Area, where bandits reportedly killed several residents and security personnel in communities such as Dabe and Kawara.

The delegation also paid tribute to the late Speaker, who died on April 6, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, after a prolonged illness. He was laid to rest in his hometown of Zuru, drawing a large crowd of mourners.

Governor Nasir Idris, while receiving the Vice President, thanked the Federal Government for its support and solidarity during the difficult period. He described the loss of both the security personnel and the Speaker as a heavy blow to the state.

The governor, however, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, while expressing confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts to address ongoing security challenges in the region.
