The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has taken a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying his real concern ahead of the 2027 elections should be millions of Nigerians grappling with hardship—not opposition parties.

In a statement released on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party was reacting to the President’s recent comments ridiculing opposition activities. The ADC described Tinubu’s remarks as unbefitting of his office, accusing him of being out of touch with the realities of rising food prices, growing debt, and widespread poverty.

According to the party, the President’s comments reflected a leadership disconnected from the struggles of ordinary citizens. It also faulted his focus on political rhetoric at a time when security concerns persist, including reports of abductions involving schoolchildren.

The ADC further dismissed claims about its convention being held on the street, arguing that the government has repeatedly denied opposition groups access to public venues such as Eagle Square.

The party also criticized Tinubu’s recent attempts to associate with supporters of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the move as inconsistent given his past criticisms of the previous administration.

Reaffirming its stance, the ADC accused the current government of weakening democratic institutions and sidelining the legislature. It urged the President to shift attention from political distractions to addressing pressing issues affecting Nigerians, particularly security and the economy.
