The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has temporarily suspended its ongoing campaign to allow full attention to be shifted to the Federation Cup, the country’s premier knockout football competition.
The league authorities explained that the decision was made to ensure smooth coordination of fixtures and prevent scheduling clashes between both competitions. With several Federation Cup matches already lined up across the country, the NPFL leadership agreed that pausing league action would help maintain order in the domestic football calendar.
Officials also stressed that the break is aimed at giving clubs enough time to focus on cup commitments without the pressure of league fixtures running simultaneously. The move is expected to reduce fixture congestion and improve overall match organisation.
The NPFL is expected to resume after the conclusion of key Federation Cup rounds, with a revised schedule to be communicated to clubs and stakeholders.
Football stakeholders have described the adjustment as a necessary step to balance both competitions and ensure the smooth running of the domestic football season.
