Officials in Kano State have shut down a herbal medicine outlet after it was accused of involving minors in the promotion of products linked to sexual performance.
The action was taken by the state’s Censorship Board following reports that children were featured in advertisements considered unsuitable for their age. Authorities described the development as a breach of regulations guiding public decency and child protection.
According to the board, the use of underage individuals in marketing such products violates established laws, especially those aimed at safeguarding children from exposure to inappropriate content. The shop owner has been summoned to explain the circumstances surrounding the advert.
The board emphasized that it will continue to monitor and regulate the activities of traditional medicine vendors, particularly in how they promote their products. It warned that anyone found flouting these rules would face strict penalties.
In addition, child rights advocates have condemned the incident, stressing that minors must not be used in any form of advertising that could harm their well-being or dignity.
