IPOB Counsel Cautions Tinubu on Political Fallout Over Kanu’s Continued Detention

A legal representative of Nnamdi Kanu has cautioned President Bola Tinubu that the ongoing detention of the separatist figure could carry serious political consequences ahead of the 2027 elections.

The lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, made the remark in a recent statement, stressing that the situation surrounding Kanu’s incarceration continues to generate strong reactions, particularly in Nigeria’s South-East. He suggested that public sentiment in the region may play a decisive role in shaping future electoral outcomes.

According to him, the prolonged legal battle and imprisonment of the IPOB leader have become a significant political issue, one that could influence voter behavior if not addressed. He argued that many people in the region remain deeply concerned about the case and may express their stance during the next general election cycle.

Kanu, who leads the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been at the center of legal and political debates for years, with his trial and detention drawing attention both locally and internationally. His lawyer’s latest comments add to ongoing calls from supporters urging the government to reconsider its position on the matter.
