The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and shut down illegal operations involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit alcoholic beverages in Lagos State.
Acting on intelligence reports, enforcement officers carried out coordinated raids on suspected facilities located around the Trade Fair Complex and Lagos Island. The operation led to the recovery of large quantities of fake drinks and production materials.
Officials disclosed that more than 1,800 cartons of adulterated alcoholic products were confiscated during the exercise. The seized items, which were estimated to be worth about ₦350 million, were allegedly being prepared for circulation in the Nigerian market.
During the raid, investigators also discovered makeshift production setups fitted with improvised equipment such as mixing containers, reused branded bottles, and packaging materials used to imitate popular alcohol brands.
One suspect was reportedly arrested in connection with the illegal activities, while all recovered items have been evacuated for further investigation and regulatory action.
NAFDAC warned that consuming counterfeit alcoholic drinks poses serious health dangers, including poisoning and organ damage, and reiterated its commitment to cracking down on such illegal operations across the country.
