Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is expected to step down from his position following approval from President Bola Tinubu to pursue his political ambition in Oyo State.
The development reportedly followed a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where the minister briefed the president on his performance in the power sector and formally indicated his interest in contesting the upcoming governorship race.
During the engagement, Adelabu presented a detailed account of his stewardship, highlighting ongoing reforms aimed at improving electricity generation, strengthening transmission infrastructure, and enhancing overall service delivery in the sector.
Sources indicate that President Tinubu commended the minister for his efforts and granted his consent for him to proceed with his political plans.
The minister is now expected to officially tender his resignation in the coming days, in line with requirements for political officeholders seeking elective positions.
His planned exit marks a transition from his role in government to active participation in the political contest ahead of the next electoral cycle.
