The Federal Government has approved a ₦17 billion funding plan aimed at accelerating development initiatives in all 8,804 political wards across Nigeria.

The programme is designed to support community-led projects that address local needs, with each ward expected to work alongside verified community organisations to identify and implement priority projects. Officials say the approach is intended to bring governance closer to the grassroots and improve service delivery at the local level.

According to government sources, the initiative will focus on areas such as basic healthcare support, small-scale infrastructure improvements, nutrition programmes, and sanitation upgrades, depending on the specific needs of each community.

The project will be managed by a special task force, with funding released through a dedicated account to ensure monitoring and accountability. Implementation is scheduled to run within a set timeline in 2026, with oversight structures put in place to track progress and ensure transparency.
