The Zamfara State Government has organised and financed a large-scale wedding ceremony involving 100 couples as part of its social support initiatives aimed at assisting vulnerable residents across the state.
The event, which drew beneficiaries from all 14 local government areas, was carried out under a state-backed welfare programme designed to ease the financial burden of marriage and promote stable family life among low-income groups.
Officials of the state government said the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support widows, orphans, and economically disadvantaged individuals who wish to marry but lack the resources to do so. Each bride reportedly received financial assistance, including a dowry contribution and startup support to help newly formed households.
During the ceremony, government representatives also urged the couples to prioritise peace, mutual respect, and understanding in their homes as the foundation for lasting marriages.
The mass wedding is part of a broader intervention strategy by the state that includes empowerment schemes and social welfare packages targeted at improving living conditions for residents.
