President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Dr. Muttaqha Darma as Nigeria’s new Minister of Housing and Urban Development during a ceremony held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.

The swearing-in, which took place shortly before 4:00 p.m. at the President’s Conference Room, follows a recent cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance and improving economic performance under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the changes were designed to enhance coordination within the cabinet.

Dr. Darma replaces Ahmed Dangiwa, who stepped down as part of the minor Federal Executive Council reshuffle announced earlier in the week.

Before his appointment, Darma served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund. His nomination was approved by the Senate on Thursday after being formally presented in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

During his screening, Darma pledged to collaborate closely with the National Assembly to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit, noting that more than 100 million Nigerians lack access to adequate housing. He also outlined plans to strengthen institutions in the sector and expand access to affordable homes.

Dangiwa officially handed over leadership of the ministry on Thursday, in line with directives from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
