A violent attack has left a traditional leader and members of his household dead in Benue State, deepening concerns over insecurity in the region.

The incident occurred in Olegabulu, a community within Agatu Local Government Area, where armed assailants stormed the residence of the local ruler late in the evening. During the assault, the monarch, his wife, and their son were fatally shot.

Witnesses said the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, initially blended in before launching the deadly operation. After targeting the royal home, they reportedly extended the violence to a nearby building, where additional victims were killed.

Local authorities confirmed that five people lost their lives in total, while another individual sustained injuries during the attack. The gunmen were said to have operated for several minutes before fleeing the area.

Officials disclosed that security personnel have since visited the scene, though details surrounding the motive remain unclear.

The latest incident adds to a string of violent episodes in parts of Benue, leaving residents anxious and calling for stronger security measures.
