Stakeholders in the special needs community have renewed calls for deeper societal understanding and full inclusion of persons on the autism spectrum, urging Nigerians to move beyond awareness campaigns to meaningful acceptance and support.

The advocates made the appeal while marking activities around World Autism Awareness observances, stressing that individuals with autism deserve equal opportunities in education, healthcare, and social participation without discrimination or stigma.

They noted that despite growing conversations about neurodiversity, many families still face misunderstanding and isolation, calling for stronger community engagement and government-backed systems that promote early intervention, specialised learning support, and inclusive policies.

According to them, autistic persons possess unique abilities and perspectives that can contribute positively to society if given the right environment to thrive.

They further encouraged parents, educators, and policymakers to work together in building a more accepting society where differences are respected and every individual is given the chance to reach their full potential.
