Students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), are set to benefit from a significant expansion in accommodation facilities following a massive financial pledge from billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote.

The donation, valued at $550 million, is aimed at constructing modern hostel blocks within the university, a move expected to ease the long-standing shortage of student housing on campus.

The project is anticipated to transform the living conditions of students by providing safer, more comfortable, and well-equipped residential spaces. It also reflects growing private sector involvement in strengthening Nigeria’s higher education infrastructure.

University stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention that will enhance academic life and reduce the burden on students struggling to secure accommodation off-campus.
