Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has reportedly rejected the alleged shortlist of aspirants circulating ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Abia State, declaring that only constitutionally recognised procedures would determine candidates of the party.
Kalu maintained that the APC would strictly adhere to democratic principles and internal party guidelines in the selection of candidates for future elections in the state. He emphasized that no unofficial list or arrangement would override the party’s approved process.
According to reports, the Deputy Speaker stated that only direct primaries or a valid consensus arrangement accepted by party stakeholders would be recognised by the leadership of the party in Abia State.
He reportedly warned party members and supporters against relying on unverified lists being circulated on social media and other political platforms, insisting that such documents do not represent the official position of the APC.
The lawmaker further called on party faithful to remain united and committed to strengthening the APC in Abia, stressing the need for transparency, fairness, and inclusiveness in the build up to the party’s primaries.
Kalu also reiterated his commitment to the growth of the APC in Abia State, urging aspirants and stakeholders to focus on building a stronger opposition capable of competing effectively in future elections.
