The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its candidates for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections to prioritize the party’s collective success over personal ambitions that could jeopardize their chances at the polls.
FCT PDP Chairman, Ismail Dogara, gave the warning on Monday in Abuja during the official handover of INEC nomination forms to the party’s candidates. He emphasized the importance of unity and discipline as the party fields six chairmanship and 62 councillorship candidates across the FCT.
“During my campaign for state chairman, I made it clear that this party is too significant to remain quiet. Our goal is to win, and we cannot afford distractions. Personal ambition that clashes with the party’s interest will only cost us the election,” Dogara stated.
Also speaking at the event, former House of Representatives member Micha Jibah encouraged the candidates to approach the campaign with courage and determination, praising them for stepping forward to contest under the PDP banner.
In his remarks on behalf of the candidates, Kasim Mohammed, the chairmanship candidate for Gwagwalada, expressed gratitude to party leaders for their support and stressed the need for continued unity and collaboration.
“We’ve been mobilizing voters for the PDP ahead of February 2026, but we still need your backing. Politics is about people, and we believe the people will stand with us and deliver victory,” he said.
Mohammed also appealed to party leaders to stay engaged throughout the campaign, urging them to be responsive to the candidates’ needs.
