In a decisive move to strengthen the fight against insecurity, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of members to the newly established Abia State Homeland Security Board. This development is part of a broader effort to enhance security across the state and ensure a more coordinated response to emerging threats.

Heading the board is Brigadier General N.V.U. Nnorom (Rtd.), who will serve as Chairman, while Colonel Chidi Kalu Ukoha (Rtd.) has been named as the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer. The board also includes Mr. Chukwunenye Alajemba, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Homeland Security, retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Allwell Okwuonu, and Mrs. Ngozi Ula Ukoha.

Mrs. Ugo Chidi Onyeabor has been appointed as the Secretary of the board. Their appointments were officially announced by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, who emphasized the governor’s commitment to restoring peace and safety across all parts of the state.

This new security board is expected to collaborate closely with existing security agencies and community stakeholders to monitor threats and respond swiftly to incidents. The board’s formation signifies a strategic shift towards a more localized and proactive approach to public safety in Abia State.

The appointment comes shortly after the state government launched a Security Trust Fund aimed at mobilizing resources to support security initiatives. The fund is intended to bolster the capacity of the state in dealing with criminal elements and ensuring a secure environment for residents and businesses.
