Yesterday, the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, joined other eminent Nigerians to pay their last respects at the burial of the late Dr. Chris Asoluka (Okwuruoha). The funeral service took place at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ihiagwa, Imo State, after which Dr. Asoluka was laid to rest in his hometown of Ihiagwa, Owerri West Local Government Area.
Dr. Asoluka, a native of Umuemeze Village in Ihiagwa Autonomous Community, had a distinguished career in public service. He worked briefly with the Nigeria Customs Service before venturing into politics, where he represented Owerri Federal Constituency in the National Assembly and also served as Imo State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, among other key roles.
In a heartfelt condolence message to the bereaved family, Governor Otti described the late Asoluka as “a man of uncommon pedigree, a visionary strategist in development and public policy, a prolific scholar, and an intellectual giant.”
Governor Otti further stated:
“Beyond being a firm believer in the Nigerian vision, Dr. Asoluka distinguished himself in national service with dignity, honesty, and unwavering commitment. His life embodied principled public service, consistent advocacy for justice and equity, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence.”
The Governor encouraged the family to find solace in the legacy of an exemplary and fulfilled life, adding that Dr. Asoluka was “a pillar of strength and guidance to his loved ones and has now gone to rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
The burial ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. Nnenna Oti, and renowned economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, among others.
