The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has arrested two individuals in connection with separate acts of vandalism at the Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse.

According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the first suspect, 22-year-old Abubakar Muhammad — a student of the institution — was apprehended on July 22 around 11:40 a.m. for allegedly vandalising eight ceiling fans donated by TETFund and installed in various classrooms.

During interrogation, Abubakar reportedly confessed to stealing the fans and selling the electric motors to Yahya Isma’il, 20, a scrap dealer residing near Dutse Central Mosque. However, Yahya denied any involvement when questioned by authorities.

The second suspect, 22-year-old Fahad Nasir of Unguwa Dagari in Zai, was arrested on July 23 around 9:00 a.m. for allegedly removing aluminum roofing sheets from classroom buildings within the same polytechnic.

The NSCDC said both suspects are in custody as investigations continue. The command also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in vandalism, stressing that such acts will not go unpunished.
