The Abia State House of Assembly has advanced deliberations on the 2025 fiscal plan with the formal receipt and adoption of the Joint Committee’s report on the 2025 Appropriation Bill (H.A.B. 33) during plenary on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Presented by Hon. Ume Matthias, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, the report came from the Joint Committee on Appropriation & Budget, Economic Planning, Multilaterals, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The committee thoroughly reviewed the budget proposal submitted by Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

The Assembly unanimously adopted the report as its official working document, paving the way for in-depth clause-by-clause review and eventual passage of the bill. The proposed budget outlines the state’s revenue expectations, sectoral allocations, and strategic priorities for 2025.

When passed, the budget is expected to drive the Otti administration’s development vision, focusing on key sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, digital innovation, youth empowerment, and institutional reforms.

This adoption signals the lawmakers’ commitment to rigorous and transparent budget review aligned with global standards. It also underscores the cooperative dynamic between the executive and legislative branches in delivering a people-focused and development-oriented fiscal roadmap for Abia State.

As the budget process enters its concluding stages, public attention remains fixed on the Assembly’s efforts to pass a financial blueprint many believe will shape the state’s next chapter of growth and governance reforms.
