Maxwell Moved to Lower-Security Prison Amid New Talks on Epstein Case

Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite serving a 20-year prison sentence for aiding Jeffrey Epstein in sexually abusing underage girls, has been transferred to a lower-security federal facility in Texas.

The U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed Maxwell’s relocation from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison in Florida, to the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. The move occurred just days after a reported meeting with Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, who expressed interest in potential new information about others involved in Epstein’s crimes.

Maxwell’s attorney, David Markus, acknowledged the transfer but declined further comment. He has previously stated that Maxwell would welcome a grant of clemency from former President Donald Trump.

However, Trump dismissed any suggestion of intervention during an interview with Newsmax. “Nobody has asked me. I know nothing about the case,” he said, while noting he has the authority to grant clemency.

The prison camp in Bryan is classified as a minimum-security facility, the least restrictive level within the federal prison system, featuring limited perimeter fencing and fewer staff compared to facilities like FCI Tallahassee.

The move has drawn criticism from the family of Virginia Giuffre, a prominent Epstein accuser who died earlier this year. They are urging Trump and the Justice Department not to reduce Maxwell’s sentence or ease her confinement.

Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on the Department of Justice to release sealed records from grand jury proceedings in the Epstein-Maxwell investigation. Two federal judges in Manhattan are currently considering the government’s request to unseal transcripts. Lawyers for Maxwell, Epstein, and several alleged victims are expected to file their positions with the court this week.

Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of recruiting and grooming girls for Epstein, who died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial. She has since petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn her conviction.
