The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched an investigation into the shocking death of a 45-year-old man, Mr. Udeme Sunday Uko, who was found dead in a church in Ukanafun Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at a church in Ikot Oku Usung village. The victim, his wife, and children were sleeping inside the church when a gunshot was heard. Uko was later discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head, raising suspicions of either suicide or a targeted attack.

The police were alerted by concerned citizens after the victim’s wife reported the incident. A team of officers swiftly arrived at the scene, where a locally made pistol was recovered as evidence. The deceased’s body has been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a thorough and expedited investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death and bring the perpetrators to justice.
