The Abia State Government has re-awarded the contract for the completion of the long-abandoned hostel project at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mgbarakuma, Ubakala, to Jalingo Construction Limited, with a three-month completion deadline.

Speaking during the official handover at the project site, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Sunny Jackson, described the move as timely, especially in light of growing flood threats linked to climate change.

Dr. Jackson noted that Governor Alex Otti’s administration has given SEMA the necessary support to deliver impactful, action-oriented projects. He urged the contractor to strictly follow the agreed terms, stressing that once completed, the facility will significantly boost disaster resilience for displaced persons in the state.

Representing the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Chigbundu Emelogu formally reassigned the project to the new contractor, stating that both federal and state governments are committed to ensuring critical relief infrastructure is completed and put to use.

In his remarks, Mr. Amobi Ebokan, speaking on behalf of Jalingo Construction Limited, expressed gratitude to both levels of government and pledged to mobilize to site immediately for a quality and timely delivery.

The ceremony ended with the signing of the handover certificate, signaling a fresh start for the long-neglected facility.
