Tinubu Assigns Speaker Abbas-Led Panel to Resolve Bauchi APC Crisis

President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated a committee led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to resolve the lingering crisis within the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The committee has been tasked with identifying the root causes of the internal rift and finding lasting solutions to restore unity in the state party structure. A statement released on Sunday by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, revealed the names of other members of the panel, which include Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni; former House Speaker Yakubu Dogara; Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel; Presidential aide on political matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari; and Alhaji Usman Abubakar Gotomo. The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Prof Jake Dan-Azumi, will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The committee has already commenced work, holding its inaugural meeting in Abuja in late July to map out its strategy. Speaker Abbas emphasized that the president deliberately chose individuals known for their credibility, experience, and impartiality. He encouraged members to carry out their duties diligently and complete the assignment within the one-month deadline, ahead of the party’s planned congresses.

Following initial deliberations, the panel convened a key meeting with major APC stakeholders from Bauchi State on July 31 at the Yobe State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro. The session, chaired by Governor Buni in the Speaker’s absence, focused on historical grievances dating back to the party’s 2015 primaries. Attendees included former Bauchi Governors Mohammed Abubakar and Isa Yuguda, Senator Surat Dada, Senator Salisu Matori, and Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate.

The committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations to the president in the coming weeks for further action.
