The immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has reiterated his commitment to accountability and anti-corruption efforts, urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out its mandate without fear or favour.

Kyari made the remarks on Wednesday after honouring an invitation by the EFCC at its headquarters in Abuja, where he arrived around 1:00 p.m. and left shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Speaking after the session, the former NNPCL boss said his appearance was consistent with his belief in due process and institutional integrity.

“I have done my part; the EFCC must do theirs. When each of us do our duty—without fear or favour, with honour, respect, and commitment—Nigeria moves forward,” Kyari stated.

He stressed that his 34 years of service at the NNPC and later NNPCL, including nearly six years as GCEO, were guided by the fear of God, adding that he remains ready to account for his stewardship.

Kyari dismissed reports that he was ever detained by the EFCC, describing such claims as “mischief and a calculated attempt” to mislead the public. He maintained that disinformation of this nature could send wrong signals to investors and harm the country’s image.

The former oil chief, who served under both Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Tinubu, urged the media to exercise caution in reporting unverified claims while assuring Nigerians that he is available to answer all lawful queries.
