The Abia State Government has announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for September will hold on Saturday, September 27, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, the government said movement of people and vehicles during the exercise will be restricted, except for those on essential duties who must present valid identification or official authorization when required.

The release directed Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of local government councils, traditional rulers, town union leaders, religious leaders, youth and women groups to mobilize, sensitize, and participate fully in the cleanup exercise.

It further ordered all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies, and business premises across the state to remain closed on Friday, September 26, 2025, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. for their own clean-up activities.

The Ministry also assured that waste disposal trucks will be available on Saturday to evacuate refuse, while security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, will be deployed as usual.

Residents are urged to stay at home, clean their surroundings, and wear nose masks during the exercise. Defaulters, the government warned, will be arrested and prosecuted under the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
