Tinubu Urges Unity, Says He Never Tried to Convert Wife to Islami

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of Plateau State, to embrace peace and unity, stressing that love and tolerance are vital for national progress.

Speaking at the funeral service of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Jos on Saturday, Tinubu dismissed claims that he had ever attempted to convert his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a Christian pastor, to Islam.

“I inherited Islam from my family; I never changed. My wife is a pastor and prays for me at all times. I have never tried to convert her,” Tinubu said. “We serve the same Almighty God, and our deeds and character will speak for us. What matters most is love and unity among us.”

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, in his remarks, commended the President for attending the funeral despite his busy schedule. He noted that insecurity had been a major challenge to the state’s development but assured that his administration was working to promote peace and stability.

The governor also appreciated the First Lady for her continued support for displaced and vulnerable women and children across Plateau.

In an emotional tribute, Prof. Yilwatda described his late mother as a compassionate and selfless woman who lived a life dedicated to serving others. “She was loyal, humble, and generous. Whatever she had, she shared with our neighbours,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, state governors, and Nigerians for standing by his family during their period of grief.
