The Northern Elders Unity Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of plotting to destabilise the party and weaken opposition politics in Nigeria.
In a statement issued after its meeting on Wednesday, the Forum’s National Secretary, Dr. Abbas Sadauki, alleged that Wike and some members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) were collaborating with “external forces” to create internal crises within the party.
“There is no reason to allow these ungrateful individuals, under the influence of Mr. Nyesom Wike, whose ambition is to destroy everything good about the PDP and the opposition, to succeed,” Sadauki declared.
He vowed that no amount of intimidation or internal sabotage would derail the party’s planned national convention in Ibadan. “Those misleading groups within our party to scuttle the national convention are jokers. They will fail,” he added.
The Forum expressed full support for the acting PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and other leaders “genuinely committed to rebuilding and uniting the party ahead of 2027.”
According to the statement, “The dedication shown by Ambassador Damagum and loyal stakeholders toward repositioning the PDP is a patriotic sacrifice to make the party stronger and more united.”
The Forum also urged the judiciary and President Bola Tinubu to beware of what it described as “political mercenaries” allegedly manipulating national institutions to destabilise democracy.
“We appeal to the judiciary not to be misled by these elements. They are enemies of progress and a burden to good governance,” Sadauki warned.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the current PDP leadership, the Forum said the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to proceed with the national convention remains binding on all members.
