The Nigerian Senate has called on the country’s Armed Forces to immediately recruit at least 100,000 personnel to strengthen efforts against rising insecurity in various parts of the nation.
In addition, the Senate resolved to establish an ad hoc committee to scrutinize the funding, expenditure, and outcomes of the Safe School Programme.
These decisions followed a motion addressing Monday’s abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. The Senate strongly condemned the kidnapping and expressed deep sympathy for the families of the victims.
The Senate also mourned the recent killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other military personnel in Borno State, describing the attacks as tragic losses to the nation.
