Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has emphasised that technical and vocational education is a powerful approach to reducing youth unemployment, arguing it equips young people with practical skills that make them job creators rather than job seekers. He made the comments during the formal opening of the newly completed Model Technical College in Omadino, located in the Warri South area of the state.
Oborevwori described the institution as a flagship project of his administration’s human‑capital development strategy, designed to produce skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, and employers of labour in fields that match current industry needs.
Highlighting the progress made by his government without borrowing, the governor noted that the college had already begun academic activities before its official inauguration and said the readiness of facilities demonstrated the state’s commitment to quality education.
He insisted that investment in modern workshops, laboratories, and classrooms, along with a focus on hands‑on training, would enhance employability for Delta youths and contribute to broader efforts to tackle joblessness across Nigeria.
