Barely a week after a series of fire outbreaks ravaged Singa Market in Kano, another inferno has reduced a small-scale industrial complex in the state to ashes.

The Kano State Fire Service Emergency Response Unit said it received a distress call from a resident, Mr. Joseph, reporting the incident. The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Friday, destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira.

The affected facility, known as the Fatima Crushing and Recycling Small-Scale Industrial Complex, accommodates several businesses operating within and outside Kano.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, said more than 150 shops were affected by the blaze. He explained that firefighters from the agency’s headquarters, as well as the Dakata and Rijiyar Zaki fire stations, were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the fire.

“Upon arrival, our crews discovered that the industrial complex, measuring about 300 by 200 feet, had been engulfed in flames,” Abdullahi said.

He noted that the complex is divided into four sections — Plots A, B, C and D — with a total of about 506 stalls. Of these, approximately 100 stalls were completely destroyed.

The estimated financial loss from the incident is put at between ₦700 million and ₦800 million.

According to the complex’s secretary, the fire was allegedly triggered by children who lit an open fire to keep warm.

Abdullahi added that the blaze was eventually brought under control through the prompt response and dedication of firefighters, who deployed four fire engines to prevent the flames from spreading further.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service has advised members of the public to take necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks, particularly by avoiding the use of open flames in public and industrial areas.
