President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, as part of ongoing high-level consultations on regional and continental issues.
The meeting, which began around 4 p.m. at the State House, was conducted behind closed doors, with no official details released about the discussions as of press time.
Sources indicated that the engagement is part of a continuing pattern of consultations between the two leaders, particularly on political developments in West Africa and Nigeria’s broader diplomatic interests across the continent.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the visit in a brief post on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by photos of the meeting.
“President Tinubu meets former President Goodluck Jonathan at the Villa,” he wrote.
Images from the اللقاء showed both leaders in a relaxed atmosphere, engaged in conversation inside the President’s office. A document titled “Two-Year Milestone” was also visible, suggesting ongoing internal assessments of the administration’s performance.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had yet to issue an official statement outlining the purpose or outcome of the talks.
Jonathan’s visit comes months after his last known appearance at the State House in November 2025, shortly after he was evacuated from Guinea-Bissau during a political crisis.
At the time, the former president was leading a West African Elders Forum election observation mission when a group of soldiers reportedly staged a coup, detaining President Umaro Sissoco Embaló ahead of the official declaration of election results.
Jonathan was later airlifted out of the country aboard a jet reportedly provided by Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara.
The former Nigerian leader has remained active in regional diplomacy, frequently engaging African leaders on governance, elections, and conflict resolution across West Africa.
