Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has advised members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State to disregard reports of an alleged list of shortlisted candidates said to have emerged from Abuja ahead of the party’s primaries.
Kalu stated that no official list of preferred aspirants exists, insisting that the APC remains committed to transparent and democratic processes in selecting candidates for future elections in the state.
According to the Deputy Speaker, aspirants seeking various elective positions should focus on grassroots mobilisation and prepare adequately for party primaries rather than relying on rumours and unofficial political arrangements.
He explained that the APC recognises only constitutionally approved methods for the emergence of candidates, including direct primaries and consensus arrangements agreed upon by stakeholders in line with the party’s guidelines.
Kalu further stressed that the party would not tolerate actions capable of creating division or confusion among members, warning against the circulation of fake lists aimed at misleading supporters and aspirants.
The federal lawmaker also called for unity within the Abia APC, urging members to remain focused on strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections while maintaining discipline and respect for internal democratic processes.
