Several motorists and commuters narrowly escaped tragedy on Tuesday after a speeding truck lost control and crashed near a toll gate in Lagos State.
According to reports, the truck, which was conveying sachet water, reportedly suffered brake failure before overturning and spilling its contents across the road, causing panic among road users and heavy traffic congestion in the area.
Eyewitnesses said many people scampered for safety as the truck veered off its lane before crashing, while emergency responders and traffic officials quickly moved to the scene to prevent further accidents.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were said to have coordinated traffic and cleared the affected area to restore normal movement of vehicles.
No death was officially recorded from the incident as of the time of filing the report, though the accident again raised concerns over reckless driving and frequent cases of brake failure involving heavy duty trucks on Lagos roads.
Authorities have continued to urge drivers, especially operators of articulated vehicles, to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and avoid excessive speeding to reduce road accidents across the state.
