Court Sends Ex Power Minister Saleh Mamman To Prison Over ₦33.8bn Fraud

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment over a ₦33.8 billion fraud connected to the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects.

The judgment was delivered on Wednesday by Justice James Omotosho after the court found the former minister guilty on all 12 counts filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The charges bordered on conspiracy and money laundering involving funds allegedly linked to the power projects during his time in office.

According to the court, the prosecution successfully proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to Mamman’s conviction on all counts.

Justice Omotosho ruled that the prison terms attached to each count would run consecutively, resulting in a combined jail term of 75 years.

The case is considered one of the major corruption convictions involving a former cabinet member in recent years, especially in relation to Nigeria’s power sector projects.
