Excitement, celebration, and football brilliance took center stage on Sunday as Amuda Ward in Umunneochi emerged champions of the 2026 Agunecheibe Football Tournament sponsored and hosted by Hon. Amobi Ogah.









The grand finale, held at Isuikwuato High School, Otamkpa, Anamco, attracted a massive crowd of football lovers, political stakeholders, youth groups, traditional leaders, and supporters from across Abia North, turning the venue into a carnival like atmosphere filled with music, chants, and nonstop jubilation.
In a thrilling final encounter, Amuda Ward defeated Isiala Ward of Isuikwuato Local Government Area 2:1 in a highly entertaining match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats from kickoff to the final whistle.
The game lived up to expectations as both teams displayed skill, determination, tactical discipline, and attacking football. Amuda Ward took an early lead before Isiala Ward responded with an equalizer that ignited wild celebrations among their supporters. However, Amuda Ward regained control of the game with a decisive second goal that sealed their victory and crowned them champions of the prestigious tournament.
Earlier in the third place playoff, Absu Umuanyi Ward 10 secured a narrow 1:0 victory over Ezingodo Ward in another competitive fixture.
The event became even more remarkable with the presence of former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo, whose appearance drew loud cheers from football fans and young players eager to catch a glimpse of the Nigerian football legend. Kanu commended the organizer for investing in grassroots football and encouraging youth development through sports.
Also present at the event was the Mayor of Isuikwuato LGA, Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, who praised the tournament for promoting peace, unity, and healthy competition among youths in the area. He noted that such initiatives would continue to strengthen community relationships and inspire young talents to pursue productive paths.
Speaking during the grand finale, Hon. Amobi Ogah reiterated his commitment to sustaining the football tournament, stating that youth empowerment and talent discovery remain central to his vision for the people.
According to him, sports remain one of the strongest tools for building unity and creating opportunities for young people.
He assured participants and supporters that the tournament would continue to grow bigger in the coming years.
In his remarks, Hon. David Ogba Onuoha, popularly known as Bourdex and Labour Party candidate for Abia North Senatorial Election, applauded Hon. Amobi Ogah for organizing what he described as a “people centered and youth driven competition.”
Bourdex stated that the large turnout and peaceful atmosphere showed that the people were eager for initiatives that directly impact the younger generation positively.
He encouraged the youths to remain united, disciplined, and focused, while also using sports as a platform to achieve greatness.
The atmosphere throughout the event reflected the magnitude of the tournament, with heavy crowd presence, continuous celebrations, drumming, dancing, and passionate support from fans who filled the venue to capacity.
The Agunecheibe Football Tournament has continued to establish itself as one of the biggest grassroots football competitions in Abia North, serving as a platform for talent discovery, community integration, and youth engagement.
