The leader of the Igbo community in Ghana, Eze Jude Chukwudi Ihenetu, has publicly refuted claims regarding the acquisition of land for an “Igbo Village” in Ghana, stressing that no such plan exists and no land has been purchased.

In a statement issued after a meeting with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on July 16, 2025, Eze Ihenetu reaffirmed the community’s respect for Ghanaian laws, traditions, and its commitment to peaceful coexistence.

Clarifying the source of the allegations, Eze Ihenetu explained that the rumors were based on a misinterpreted interview from 2013, shortly after his coronation as Eze Ohazurume I of Ndigbo in 2012. He stated that any suggestions of establishing an Igbo Kingdom or Village were dropped as early as 2014.

Eze Ihenetu expressed heartfelt apologies to the President of Ghana, the government, traditional leaders, and the people for any confusion or concern the reports may have caused, particularly regarding the purported acquisition of 50 acres of land in Ningo Prampram, Greater Accra Region.

Since relocating to Ghana in 1995, he said, his focus has been on improving the welfare of the Igbo community and strengthening cultural and economic ties, always within the framework of Ghanaian law.

“We, the Igbo people, hold the laws of Ghana in the highest regard and denounce any actions or narratives that may threaten the strong bond between our communities,” he said, reassuring all Ghanaians of the Igbo community’s dedication to unity and mutual respect.
