10 Miners Killed in Zamfara Pit Collapse

Tragedy struck in Zamfara State as 10 artisanal miners lost their lives following the collapse of a mining pit in Maru Local Government Area.

The state government, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed the incident and expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased. Rescue operations were immediately carried out, but all the victims were recovered dead.

Authorities have once again warned residents against unsafe mining practices, which they say remain a major cause of such disasters. Zamfara, rich in mineral deposits, has recorded several mining-related accidents in recent years, largely linked to unregulated artisanal activities.

The government said efforts are ongoing to improve safety in mining communities, while stressing that unlicensed and illegal operations pose significant risks both to miners and the environment.

Officials also assured that necessary measures will be taken to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy.
