Lead counsel and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), has withdrawn from representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in his ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Agabi informed the court on Thursday that Kanu had decided to take over his case, prompting all other Senior Advocates of Nigeria on the defence team to also withdraw their appearance.

Confirming the development, Kanu told the court he would represent himself for now, though he may reconsider later.

Justice James Omotosho offered to assign a lawyer to him, but Kanu declined.

Opening his defence, Kanu argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to try him.
