Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the surge in insecurity across Nigeria, describing the situation as a direct result of leadership failure.

In a post on his official X account on Monday morning, Obi said the past 10 days have been filled with “unprecedented negative news,” marked by chaos, violence, and institutional decay that should trouble every leader’s conscience.

“Our country is now going through troubling times, not by fate, but by our collective leadership failures that allow insecurity, lawlessness, and institutional decay to thrive,” he wrote.

Obi stated that every day brings new tragedies that show how far Nigeria is drifting due to the absence of competent, compassionate, and responsible leadership.

“We have watched a nation blessed with resilient people drift into avoidable disorder. We should be asking ourselves: Are we cursed, or are we the curse?” he added.

He went on to list major incidents of violence recorded in the past 10 days:

1. 11/11/25 – Six senior directors of the Ministry of Defence were kidnapped along the Kogi axis, raising fears that even those responsible for national security are no longer safe.

2. 15/11/25 – A Brigadier General was brutally murdered, highlighting the dangers faced by both civilians and security personnel.

3. 16/11/25 – Sixty-four civilians, including women and children, were abducted in Zamfara, with several others killed.

4. 17/11/25 – Twenty-five schoolgirls were abducted in Kebbi, and their Vice Principal was killed.

5. 18/11/25 – Worshippers were attacked during church service in Kwara State, leaving some dead and at least 38 abducted.

6. 18/11/25 – A crisis erupted at the PDP’s Wadata Plaza headquarters, which Obi said was worsened by certain security agencies instead of being contained.

7. 18/11/25 – Judges at the All Nigeria Judges’ Conference were seen standing while a partisan APC campaign song played before the President’s arrival, raising concerns about institutional neutrality.

8. 19/11/25 – Soldiers on a mission to rescue the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls were ambushed.

9. 21/11/25 – Over 300 students and 12 teachers were abducted from a Catholic school in Niger State.

10. 22/11/25 – Bandits attacked farmers in Kaduna, killing one.

11. 23/11/25 – Five police officers were killed and two injured after terrorists ambushed them in Sabon Sara, Darazo LGA of Bauchi State.

Obi added that he had also received fresh reports of 13 female farmers abducted in Askira-Uba, Borno State, by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

He criticized the government for indifference, saying no serious nation survives on excuses or absentee leadership.

“Nigeria is bleeding because those elected to protect it have chosen comfort over courage, politics over people, and power over purpose,” he said.

He urged leaders to remember that governance is a responsibility, not a title.

“We need competence, compassion, and a government that shows up when it matters most. Every Nigerian deserves safety and peace,” he added.

Obi concluded with a message of solidarity: “To every Nigerian shaken by the events of the past 10 days, my heart is with you. Nigeria must rise again.”
