A Federal High Court in Kaduna has approved bail for former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in an ongoing corruption trial brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The court fixed the bail sum at N200 million, along with additional conditions requiring two sureties in like amount. However, the ruling also stated that the former governor must remain in ICPC custody until all bail requirements are fully satisfied.
Presiding Judge, Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, explained that the conditions attached to the bail are strict and must be met before El-Rufai can be released. Among the requirements, the sureties must surrender their international passports, while one must be a senior civil servant and the other a recognised traditional leader.
The court further directed that the defendant must attend all future hearings and refrain from making public comments related to the case while proceedings are ongoing.
El-Rufai’s legal team confirmed the ruling, expressing confidence that they would meet the conditions and continue to challenge the allegations in court. The matter was adjourned for further proceedings.
