The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered two illegal alcohol production syndicates in Lagos State, confiscating counterfeit and adulterated beverages valued at about ₦350 million.

The agency said the operation was carried out following credible intelligence, which led its enforcement teams to raid locations at Zamfara Plaza in the Trade Fair Complex and parts of Lagos Island. More than 1,800 cartons of fake alcoholic drinks were recovered during the exercise.

At the Trade Fair Complex, officials discovered makeshift production facilities equipped with plastic mixing tanks, improvised filtration systems, and large quantities of empty branded bottles, corks, and packaging materials. These were allegedly used to produce and package fake alcoholic beverages for distribution.

In a separate operation on Lagos Island, NAFDAC arrested a suspect linked to the production and sale of the adulterated drinks. The agency confirmed that all seized products have been removed for further regulatory action.

NAFDAC warned that consuming adulterated alcohol poses serious health risks, including poisoning, organ damage, and even death. It reiterated its commitment to prosecuting offenders and eliminating the circulation of substandard products.

The agency also urged the public to stay alert, buy consumables only from authorised outlets, and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office or through its toll-free line.
