Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack in Yobe, Kill 24 Fighters

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have killed 24 Boko Haram insurgents after foiling an early morning attack on Kukareta community in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The attack, which occurred shortly after midnight and lasted until about 3:00 a.m., was met with strong resistance from soldiers of Sector 2 of the Northeast Joint Task Force. The troops successfully repelled the coordinated assault, forcing the attackers to retreat.

According to the operation’s spokesperson, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the military carried out a combined offensive and defensive response that inflicted heavy losses on the insurgents.

Following the clash, troops recovered a large cache of weapons, including 18 AK-47 rifles, three general-purpose machine guns, two anti-aircraft guns, rocket-propelled grenade tubes, mortar tubes, grenades, and ammunition.

Two soldiers sustained injuries during the encounter and have since been stabilised. An armoured vehicle was also damaged in the fighting.

Uba added that follow-up operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents, with signs of casualties observed along their escape routes.

He described the operation as a demonstration of the troops’ readiness and determination to deny terrorist groups freedom of movement in the region.
