The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Obi Aguocha, has taken a firm political position ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring total support for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, and insisting that the governorship seat is not open for contest.
Speaking during an engagement with media professionals, Aguocha dismissed growing speculations about political permutations in the state, stressing that the current administration has earned the trust and backing of the people.
While acknowledging that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and others have the constitutional right to aspire to higher office, the lawmaker maintained that the political climate in Abia clearly favors the incumbent governor.
According to him, recent developments on the ground support this position, citing a massive endorsement rally held in Ikwuano/Umuahia where Governor Otti received overwhelming support from constituents.
Beyond his political stance, Aguocha highlighted his legislative achievements, particularly in the area of education. He revealed that over 700 students across tertiary institutions are currently benefiting from his scholarship and support programs.
The lawmaker emphasized that his empowerment strategy is focused on sustainability, noting that investing in education offers long-term benefits rather than temporary relief.
On national issues, Aguocha pointed to his advocacy for Nigerians affected by the controversial certificate cancellations from institutions in the Benin Republic. He said his intervention helped bring national attention to the matter and mobilized support within the National Assembly toward resolving the crisis.
Addressing human rights concerns, Aguocha reaffirmed his commitment to speaking on the case of Nnamdi Kanu, stating that as his constituent, Kanu deserves representation and a voice.
He made it clear that his position is driven by principle, not politics, adding that he is willing to face any consequences for standing by what he believes is right.
The lawmaker also clarified that he is not a member of IPOB, while rejecting its classification as a terrorist organization, instead pointing to wider security challenges across the country.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Aguocha expressed confidence in his political strength, inviting challengers to test their popularity at the polls.
He noted that unlike his first election, he now has a solid record of performance to present to voters, expressing optimism about victory for himself, his party, and Governor Otti.
Aguocha further highlighted ongoing development projects within his constituency, especially in Ohuhu, where he said road infrastructure is improving, with additional projects planned after the rainy season.
He also disclosed his role in co-sponsoring a bill seeking to upgrade Michael Okpara University of Agriculture into a conventional university, describing it as a significant step toward advancing education in the region.
Political observers believe Aguocha’s bold endorsement of Governor Otti signals growing unity within key political blocs in Abia State as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
