Court Issues Fresh Warning Over Defiance of Orders in PDP Leadership Dispute

A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has issued a formal warning over alleged disobedience of its ruling in an ongoing legal battle involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

The court, through a Form 48 notice, cautioned that Anyanwu and the INEC Chairman risk contempt proceedings if they fail to comply with its earlier judgment delivered in January 2026 concerning disputes around Anyanwu’s status within the party.

The warning follows continued disagreement over the enforcement of the court’s decision, which had earlier dismissed Anyanwu’s challenge regarding internal PDP leadership issues.

The case is part of a broader political and legal struggle within the PDP, where different factions continue to contest control of key party positions, leading to multiple court actions and counter-actions involving party officials and electoral authorities.

The court emphasized that its orders remain binding and must be obeyed, stressing that failure to comply could attract serious legal consequences, including possible imprisonment for contempt.
